I've just changed energy supplier from XX to YY.
YY provided an estimated monthly bill of £124. Less than a month into this new contract, my account was on their website and suggesting i need to change the DD up to £194. Between signing up and the happening, there had been no readings submitted.
Whats going on? Is this a scam to draw people into signing up, knowing a new, artificially low estimate will entice new custom ?

Since gas/electricity became privatised many years ago, the call centre sales staff in most(all?) companies are paid commission. You don't need to be a psychologist to appreciate that they will quote whatever it takes to get you to switch to their company.
You need to use a comparison website to see the various tariffs.
However if you do approach a company you must give them your EXACT consumption in kWh and ask for an Exact annual price in writing.0 -
Its the same with CEC, as soon as youve changed theirs always someone cheaper.0

Have a look at the new supplier's terms and conditions. Many now insist that there is sufficient credit in the account to cover the following month's charges. As you have very little in the way of credit, then I suspect that a clause of this type has kicked in. Your DD payments should reduce 5 to 6 months time. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
