Debenhams three day extravaganza starting Wednesday 21st November

After being having no success making purchases online I went to my local store, put lots of nice things in my basket made a start on my Xmas shopping, only to discover at the pay point my purse had been stolen!
So rather than saving money I managed to loose about £70 and all my cards.

The stores are extreamly busy so please take extra care, especially if your easily excited by a bargain as I am.

If instore, check the labels carefully. I noticed quite a lot of the childrens clothes had a new higher price stuck over the old ones, and they then took the discount off that. :mad:

Everyone to their own, of course.

But I'd never, ever trust Debenham's on its 'standard' pricing.

And so never trust it on its "sales" offers: there've been instances in the past of artificially high prices being set in what one can only presume is an attempt to persuade buyers into thinking that subsequent sales offers are a bigger bargain than they actually are. . .

i agree! a coat i bought four weeks ago was on line for £40.00 i used a discounts code and got it for £34 on line it was priced at £60 before 25% and in store marked down from £65.00 to £45.00 :rolleyes:

If it reduces it by a colossal £100, that would, on the face of it, be an Amazing Sale Price Value!

Except that even at £100 off, the sale price would still be the same MAXIMUM price that was being sought by the manufacturer. . .

When the manufacturer was still selling it (and when every other retailer was doing it at a further £100 off the manufacturer's price / £200 off Debenhams.)

Thus:

£445: Debenhams
£345: the manufacturer
£245: everybody else

A Debenhams sale is only of some possible value to someone if great care is taken to establish just what the "real" price of an item actually is -- though then again, why bother?

Plenty of other retailers out there with a rather more straightforward approach to the consumer.
