Scrapping car. Is it worth speaking to specific make breaker?

Now we have our new car we need to get rid of our old one.

I've had it listed locally for a couple of hundred and online (eBay) for the same price with no interest in the past 2 weeks. It's a 2004 Citroen C4 VTR+

It's a runner but there are issues with it.

EML is on which is due to a faulty relay that is telling the CPU that the fan is not turning on, but it is. THIS BRINGS UP depollution system fault on dash but the system has been checked and is working fine.

Heater matrix needs replacing. It blows either hot or freezing cold, nothing in between.

It's on the verge of needing new tyres on 2 wheels.

Currently has 128000 miles on the clock.

It's had work done over the last 3 years.

New timing belt at 117000 miles.

New Radiator

New front and rear bearings and front /rear discs and Pads around 8k miles ago.

The grunt has gone from the lower end of the revs but is fine after 3k rpm.

I'm considering just scrapping it, but I know there is some value in it, especially the 5 alloys which are spotless and can go on ebay for anything from £40 to £60 each in this condition.

Rad is less than 6 months old, the bodywork is fantastic, battery is 6 months old. Even the remote central locking keys/fobs sell for £50 online.

With this in mind, is it worth contacting a breaker who specialises in Citroen's to see if I can get a bit more than just selling to a company who will simply crush it?

I'd break it myself but have nowhere to store it.

No harm phoning, but the price will be pot luck. Most will simply pay on the cars scrap metal weight and anything sold above that is a bonus.

You tell them x,y and z parts are new, he sells them as almost new and buyer returns saying there is a fault with it. Unknown to you and him there is a stone chip that turned into a crack.

Thats why they tend to just pay scrap value (by weight).

Sell the alloys yourself, swap the wheels; if you get £150 for the car as a whole you have done well.

60 to 80 for scrap. put it on ebay with a very low start and no reserve as mot fail spares or repairs,
  • If the vehicle is SORN then i would also recommend sell the Alloys, battery, radio and any accesories all individually via gumtree/schpock

Why not just get a relay, couple of part-worn tyres, fresh MoT maybe?, and sell it as a runner with a ticket?
