Car insurance, car hire following no fault accident.

Bear with me, it's a bit long winded.

I was involved in a no fault accident on 14/11. A private hire cab drove into the side of my car from a parked position as I was passing alongside him. There was no way I could have avoided being hit, so definitely no disputing he was at fault.

My insurance company have still to let me know the outcome for my car, it's been at the body shop since 19/11. I've been driving a hire car since 19/11 as due to no fault I was told I was entitled to a similar spec car as my own.

My policy expired today at 00.00am, for whatever reason it didn't auto renew. (I spoke to them before the accident on 1/11 and said I wanted to renew, and again the day after the accident as I was checking it hadn't affected my renewal quote, and as it hadn't I told them again I wanted to renew) I was hoping by that point I'd have an outcome on repair Vs write off.

I assumed it had renewed and checked online to discover it hasn't!

I'm currently still driving the hire car provided from my insurance company but now worried as I have no insurance am I still covered to drive the hire vehicle??? Am I driving it on my insurance or on the hire companies insurance?

If you can shed any light on this situation and offer advice I'd be super grateful. My insurance company have been utterly useless throughout this saga, I've had to chase them about the estimate, and still no further forward with that.

Now the renewal not going through means they can't guarantee that I'll get the same quote as it would now be a new policy.
I spoke to someone tonight who promised me a call back with a quote, but hasn't called me and now they are shut.:(

The hire vehicle will be on the hire company’s insurance. It’s not usually covered under your insurance.
Regards the renewal- my advice is get yourself on a comparison website. From what I’ve heard this often produces surprisingly cheaper quotes on the same policy with the same company that’s far better than anything the renewals team can do! You will still be insured with the same company, same policy but often the price is lower.
