Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

You have got this far with your purchase so the house must have a lot going for it and be right for your needs at this time.

That's a lot to give up for a house that isn't guaranteed, there are lots of things that could happen to put a spanner in the works.

Think carefully with your head not just your heart!

Oops just finished the thread! Good luck with the new place!

So far along the line with first purchase to pull out and hopefully buy the one you rent
I know you have made your decision so a bit pointless me adding but I think I would have waited to see what price you could agree at first
He now has all the cards so he could dismiss your offer and give you notice to quit if he feels he would do better
Possible worst case scenario you have to leave because he has had a better offer and you end up having to secure another tenancy elsewhere
If it was just an admin error in the chain then no real problem and soon you could have your very own home that you obviously loved .
Just hope it works out well for you whichever way
  • The top of the chain switched properties without telling anyone setting us all back massively. We also came into an extra £70k which affects what we can afford in the area massively. Ultimately I think we have made the right choice, but not getting my hopes up just yet.

I think you'll find you've made the right call. If you felt it so easy (and ultimately a relief) to walk away from the property you were in the process of buying then it probably wasn't the right property for you anyway, regardless of extenuating circumstances.
