Receipt of esa 50

My partner has been on contribution based ESA for many years, over five at least. He is in the support group as he has been all the time. At 63 he has just received an ESA50, which suprised us at his age.

He a little concerned about the possibility of have to have a face to face meeting as his ability to walk is very bad, in fact he is more or less housbound. Any doctors appointments are done over the phone. He has cronic osteoarthritis and is a little worried as to what will happen and why they has sent the form now after so long. Does this mean they will expect him to move to the other group and prepare for work.

I have now sent back the ESA50, it was due to be back to them by Boxing Day, so I appreciate that with Christmas and New Year in between I was actually wondering how long they take to decide. I included a letter from my Doctor, confirming that I am housebound.
Should I have received an acknowledgement for the form?
I have tried to ring them but of course, the line was either engaged or I was in an endless queue. Any chance anyone could give me an idea of the normal waiting time for a decision. TIA

When did you return ESA 50 ?

If it was due back Boxing day/ next working day, partner could loose ESA for returning the form Late if you only just posted it back...............

No, not always. I was re-assessed for ESA in about september/October last year and i didn't hear anything at all until a letter came in the post for a face to face assessment about 7 weeks after returning the form.

Most people have face to face assessments so expect one of those, it's rare to have a paper based decision. Waiting time depend on backlog in your area, some wait weeks and other wait months.

I wasn't asking because I posted it late, it was in fact posted at the beginning of December, I was just concerned about how long it takes for them to contact me.

As I said I got a letter from my Doctor to confirm that I am house bound. I am just a little worried that they won't accept my doctors observations, but I am worried that they will insist that I go to a face to face interview at their offices. They haven't sent me an acknowledgement of the receipt of my ESA50, is it something they normally do.

As previously advised, no not always. If they hadn't received it then your ESA would have stopped and you would have been found fit for work for failing to return the form on time.

There's no timescales for how long it takes for them to contact you. It depends on backlog in your area.
