My husband and I have excellent credit ratings but he’s just been declined for a £10 month mobile phone contract for our son. We think it’s due to an issue with an order with a mobile phone company on Black Friday where due to a website problem he placed an order twice meaning he’ll have had 3 credit checks in the last few days. He’s been trying to get in touch with both companies for days now but they’re not taking calls or replying to messages. We’re really worried this has screwed up our credit rating .... what can we do?!

Hi. and welcome to the forum.
Have you and you husband checked on the data held by the three main CRAs for accuracy? If not, then I suggest you do so.
Edit: Check out the MSE article below:
How to check your credit reportI work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
I love my job0 -
Your credit ratings are fictitious and not used in lending.
You need to look at the data in your/his three files to see if there are any issues.
Stop applying until you have a better understanding of any problems. The searches will have limited effect but don't add to them.0 -
Hi just joined not sure how to post on here so i will reply to this post. just need some advice, went bankrupt in nov 2014, discharged nov 2015.my rating is poor currently working on it. i have a previous debt from granite credit card. the card was taken out on 9-11-2011 and has a debt of £890. they were notified of my bankruptcy. problem is this card shows on my credit file and every month that passes it shows a default in a red box, i thought this would not appear on my file, its not helping any advice is welcome. i have been in touch with them and its the usual 6 years apparently0

As ZX says the ratings are only seen by yourself, lenders see your history so this is what you need to focus on.0 -

There isn't really any reason to panic here. Given how busy it is over Black Friday/Cyber Monday I'd suggest waiting a bit more until things die down and try contacting them again. A few searches will have minimal effect on your credit file, particularly if there are no defaults, etc.
On that note - ignore your credit scores as no-one but you will see them. Every lender will generate their own internal score based upon the information within your credit files, so what matters most is your credit history. A single search here and there is nothing to worry about, but avoid making any more applications until you have looked at your reports from all three CRAs (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) - there may be something that that you weren't expecting which is causing you issues, or it might just be that you do not fit the profile for the lender you are applying for.george_oakes wrote: »Hi just joined not sure how to post on here so i will reply to this post. just need some advice, went bankrupt in nov 2014, discharged nov 2015.my rating is poor currently working on it. i have a previous debt from granite credit card. the card was taken out on 9-11-2011 and has a debt of £890. they were notified of my bankruptcy. problem is this card shows on my credit file and every month that passes it shows a default in a red box, i thought this would not appear on my file, its not helping any advice is welcome. i have been in touch with them and its the usual 6 years apparently
You'd probably be better off posting in a new thread - not everyone will read through to your post. Look for the big red/pink "New Thread" icon at the top of the sub forum (https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=257).0
