William Hill in-store card withdrawals

Good afternoon all,

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to view my enquiry and even more so if you can help.

I was in a William Hill yesterday, and deposited on to a FOBT Slot Machine, over the counter, through my debit card. I managed to make a decent win within 15 minutes and decided I should leave whilst I as up! The member of staff behind the counter advised me that I'd have to receive payment back on to my card via a refund (which was a first) but I wasn't bothered and agreed it was fine. I asked how long it should take and she mentioned that it could take as little as two hours but it should be in by tomorrow.

'Tomorrow' has arrived but there is no sign of the refund/withdrawal. I can't see anything regarding this on their website (it all seems associated within online gambling). Has anyone had this happen to them? and indeed how long did it take? Usually when I've had a refund from an online retailer such as Asda, it takes around 3 Working days.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Best

Yep - its standard practice to prevent money laundering and such ..

    Usually takes 2 days

I agree its a PITA - they get your money immediately , but if you win you have to wait :(

    Just use cash in future

They don't actually; if you pay by card the money may be deducted from your balance immediately but it takes several days for the retailer to actually get the money in their account.

  • I recall hearing a story many years ago of a guy who's debit card was stolen. The thief used it for amongst other things placing a bet in a bookies which appears to have been a winner because the victim received a credit into his account shortly afterwards from said bookies for more than the amounts that had been stolen :)

    (May be apocryphal)
