halifax chaps charges - advice needed

Yesterday I tried to move £20,000 from my halifax current account they refused to let me move the amount in one payment unless I paid for a chaps transfer.
A manager who told me the only way I could get my money that day was to pay the fee. (or take it out a branch in cash..if i could find one with that much available!! all other option was to transfer it in portions over a few days).
At first I thought they wouldn't let me move it as a security measure but sugesting I take £20k cash from a branch is hardly secure! Also they didn't ask any more security questions when I made the chaps transfer.
I'm furious the only way I could take my money out in one amount was to pay them.
Is this something Martins looked into? Is there any point in me complaining and any hope of getting my money back?
Advice appreciated.

Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

I don't think there is a limit .... but there is a timeframe. If you want to transfer money out you need to set up a SO or a bill payment. And you need to do this at least the day before you want to use it - as it has to go through an overnight Batch run to be 'enabled'.
All the above you can do online. CHAPS avoids this as, unless you're a frequent user, it's manual at all the user stages. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Funnily enough, they've lost £4k of mine last night.
..... they've probably calculated that's your share of their undisclosed 'sub-prime' losses? So they've taken your contribution up front before the lemmings running the 'Citibank bankrupt .. Barclays next' threads start adding Halifax to the hit list:rolleyes:
More seriously .. I do trust they find it. They've probably been turning the corporate mattresses .. and its temporarily tucked in the springs. Better go and check they haven't made off with my contribution. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

I did this, the problem was they wouldn't let me move over £15k unless i paid and did it by chaps, that's what i object to, i can only have my money in one payment if i pay them for the privaledge.
They tried to convince me chaps was great as the money could be moved the same day, i didn't care how long it took, i just wanted it in one payment, as it happened it took them 3 days to move it even with chaps.Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.

I vaguely remember bumping into this several years ago - but it then allows you to go on and make a further transaction(s) in multiples of £15k? It's a transaction limit ... not a daily limit.
I've paid out over £60k in a transaction - using my Debit Card. But if you're simply transferring money .... most institutions have some sort of ceiling levels for individual transactions. Remember someone starting a reference thread on it a couple of years ago.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
