Boiler needs replacing a month after service

I had my engineer around to look at it on the Friday evening, got a formal quote the Sunday... negotiated a bit off on the Monday and it was fitted on the Thursday but this was early September.

I found him through one of the websites like check-a-trade or mybuilder, originally only to fit a Nest thermostat, but he's been really good on couple issues since and so used him for the boiler. You'll save considerably using a one man band rather than a company (local company's wanted an extra £300-400 for a lesser boiler, don't waste your time getting British Gas to quote).

Obviously a tradesman recommended through family or friends is best, but if you're stuck I've had several really good (and no bad) experiences through check-a-trade and similar services - just be discerning going through their reviews!

I agree HampshireH. I'm not going to leave any bad reviews as there's no real way to be sure what he should or would have seen. He had very good feedback from other customers so I guess I was just unlucky.

Thanks Rusty! I've got some recommendations from friends so fingers crossed. I might just have to get used to cold baths for a bit I think! Sigh.
