Council On-Street Parking - Grace Period

I seem to recall the government recently stated that a 10 minute grace period should apply to council parking arrangements. In my locality on the High Street you get one hour free. This fact is stated on the signs and the ticket machines - 'First Hour Free'. However, in the small print on the statutory notices when the latest changes were made (these gits will not stop tinkering with parking) it said - paraphrasing - ' … one hour free parking, consisting of 50 minutes parking time plus 10 minutes grace period, after which enforcement will take place … ' Can you imagine a more cynical ploy than that? My question is - does anyone know if the Council is legally obliged to offer a 10 minute grace period, or is it just out of the goodness of their hearts?

Would need more info before commenting.

Contravention code, location and any images available of signage/lines etc.

But for what it's its worth normally observation time is 5 minutes.

I believe that is quite shocking, misleading and needs a formal complaint to the Council and then the Local Authorities Ombudsman.

I share your thoughts. Not acceptable. ''First Hour Free'' is the allowed parking time, not the grace period.

See what pepipoo say about that sign - show them a picture:
