But it wasn't just taken out of your account - you owed it anyway.

When was your policy due for renewal, and roughly what percentage of the annual premium are they asking for?

April 2019, accident happened late September. the annual premium was £244.69. does their fee add up?
  • I'm just a bit mad that money was taken out my account whilst I didn't even own the car
That's just a timing thing. You owe them the money, you can't just end all obligations the minute you dispose of the car. Get it paid so you don't have further hassle or increased costs.

So the claim occurred ~6 months into a 12 month policy - and they're asking for the other half of the premium.

    Yes, that seems very fair...

Yes. Roughly half a year's premium for roughly half a year still remaining on the annual policy.

I tried cancelling my policy but was told I can't because of the open case, could take upto 3 months to conclude case and I don't think they would have notified me anyhow thus me cancelling the monthly direct debit
  • ok thanks guys that's enough clarification. saved me making a stupid decision

Always beware when cancelling direct debits. Doing so doesn't cancel a contract and risks incurring costs.

Not far off. Six months cover would be around £122.
