Thanks for all replies to this.

I have been into town and saw the local butcher offering 10lb of beef mince for a tenner so i'm thinking savoury mince will be on offer on saturday night.

    I thought,
    Mince beef
    Onions,
    Can of Oxtail soup,
    Few herbs,
and last but not least an Oxo cube.

    What do you all think?

Have some Tabasco or chili sauce on hand to spice up for the ones who do like spicy.

Sounds good but I would definitely throw some more veggies in - a couple of tins of tomatoes chopped up maybe ( in which case you may not need the oxtail soup ) carrots, mushrooms, celery, maybe some peppers etc - will not only help stretch it but add more colour and variety of texture :) good luck !

    Hi all,

Was wondering if any of you have any recipes for a savoury mince type dish for doing in slow cooker. I have a group of 12 hungry bikers to feed on Saturday, before we all go out to a rally.

I am going to use 2 slow cookers, 6.5L for main meal and smaller one 3.5L for rice pudding (this is easy to do) but the main dish is a problem as I cannot find any recipes for slow cooker along these lines.

It just needs to be a plain and simple recipe, no spices as a couple are not keen on spicy food. Will also be doing potato and swede mash to go with it.

    Thanks in advance :)

How about a cottage pie - savoury mince, topped with mashed spud and swede. Failing that you could do what is known as a 'V Twin' breakfast (this is a name given to a breakfast we used to have at the Guzzi V Twin rally when it was held in Shaftesbury).

    Bacon
    Egg
    Sausage
    Beans
    Tinned tomatoes
    Fried Bread
Buttered Toast and a Mug of Tea

Mind you this is best eaten after a night on the beer - well 600 bikers can't be wrong can they?

    Enjoy your rally.

Its just a local group of bikers doing bonfire night a week late!! but good fun all the same.

I'm also going to do some homemade bread to go with it.

  • Hi all,

Just to let you know it went well over the weekend :) only had to feed 10 bikers so not too bad, in fact it went like a breeze.
We had savoury mince with carrot and swede mash, peas, mashed potatoes and homemade bread, followed by rice pud....enough to soak up all the beer :)
And the bonfire, fireworks and disco/band were excellent.
