meal for 12 hungry bikers!

Hi all,

Was wondering if any of you have any recipes for a savoury mince type dish for doing in slow cooker. I have a group of 12 hungry bikers to feed on Saturday, before we all go out to a rally.

I am going to use 2 slow cookers, 6.5L for main meal and smaller one 3.5L for rice pudding (this is easy to do) but the main dish is a problem as I cannot find any recipes for slow cooker along these lines.

It just needs to be a plain and simple recipe, no spices as a couple are not keen on spicy food. Will also be doing potato and swede mash to go with it.

Thanks in advance :)

  • how about savory mince or a chicken stew?
Only two big facts are known for certain: you are on a large, spinning rock hurtling through lonely space at about 67,000 mph, and one day your body is going to die. Will a new pair of shoes really help? :p

  • What about 'mush on a plate'
(sorry about the name, but descriptive nonetheless:D )

Sausage based, not mince but might be worth considering?

for 4 (approx) so you'll need to double / treble

    8 Sausages
    2 rashers bacon
1 peperami (the shop-bought ones with the scary fella on packet)
    1 onion
    2 garlic
    bit of fresh/powdered ginger
    1 tin baked beans
    1 tomatoes
    good squirt of tom puree
    good shake of mixed herbs
    splashes of worcester sauce/hendersons relish
    pepper

brown sausages, bacon and peperami. Chop sausages into 4 and put in SC.
chop and brown onion and garlic and add to SC with ginger.
heat up beans, tomatoes, puree, herbs, pepper and worcester sauce with a splash of water to loosen and add to SC when hot.
cook for a couple of hours till thickened.

Then serve the non-spice lovers first* and then add a bit of chilli sauce for the ones who like it a bit hotter. (if all like spice i brown a chilli or two at the beginning with the onion)

    *peperami shouldn't be too strong?

We've had it with root mash / yorkie puds / crusty bread.

I've made it in the SC and on the hob, hob takes about 45 mins and SC about 3hours.

......and the bonus is that effects of the beans will provide central heating in your leathers on the way;)

    Hope this helps

  • I do a kiddie version of Chilli Con Carne for my 2 littlies. The original recipe is courtesy of The Dinner lady. Mine is changed slightly to go in the slow cooker.

Basically it's an onion, 1lb minced beef, half a teaspoon of chilli powder and oregano, a tbsp of tomato puree and a tin of baked beans. This is for 4 of us so would be relatively easy to double or treble.

Thanks for all replies to this.

I have been into town and saw the local butcher offering 10lb of beef mince for a tenner so i'm thinking savoury mince will be on offer on saturday night.

    I thought,
    Mince beef
    Onions,
    Can of Oxtail soup,
    Few herbs,
and last but not least an Oxo cube.

    What do you all think?

I may have missed a thread somewhere but could you let me know

    1) Are they the big hairy type of biker that drives upwards of 500cc engines and who fill their leathers to the limit and look mean, keen but are really !!!!!cats.

    2) Are they the lean mean bicycle Tour de France type bikers that need pasta and carbs so they continue to look good in their lycra and may just win the race

    3) Are they small adolescent lads who are riding scrambling bikes or even pedal bikes who don't really care how they look but muddy is preferable and who ALWAYS have appetites of an ox?

Until I know this particular definition of 'biker' I can't advise further :)

the clue was - they are going to a rally, so it looks like option 1.

a nice big bowl of lobby (staffordshire casserole...kinda ) with crusty bread

diced meat, potatoes, carrots, onions, and other roughage in a thick gravy. ideal to cook in a slow cooker before hand and guaranteed to fill em up and keep em satisfied
