HSBC advice required... feel like I’m speaking to a brick wall!

Options
Can anyone who maybe already has a cc with hsbc or just knows about these things give me some advice?

I applied for a credit card with them almost 3 weeks ago and received a text on the 13th November confirming I had been accepted for the card and I would receive an email with the terms and conditions to electronically sign and send back to them.

Having not received anything by the 15th I called to find out what was happening and was told there was a delay and I would receive the email within 48 hours. Nothing was received and I have been told the same thing every two days since. Today I phoned for the 5th time looking to register a complaint and the person I spoke to basically refused to log my complaint and said to please give them one last chance and if I didn’t receive the terms and conditions by Wednesday then to phone them back ... which will be the 6th time!

Normally I would just change to another company if I was unhappy with the service but as this application will have put a search on my credit file I would quite like the card!

Anyone “in the know” got any advice how I can get anywhere? As I don’t believe I will receive them by Wednesday. Why should this time be any different to the previous 5 lol.

Thank you

  • Gotta love the speedy response of HSBC, no?

My recent experience was very similar to yours.

24th September applied for a 0% HSBC card.
14th October finally get an email stating that I'm approved and they need me to digitally sign the terms and conditions.
25th October I call them and get told that the card should arrive within the week.
Exactly 34 days after I applied the card finally arrived.

That's your base timeline to work from.

  • Thanks breaking_free at least you finally got it and there may be light at the end of the tunnel! I can’t believe how rubbish they are so far and I don’t even have the card yet lol
  • I don't have any advice - I do have a warning about HSBC though.

I cancelled my HSBC card before moving house, it was fully paid off, all sorted. Or so I thought. About 18 months later, I was checking an old email address and noticed one from HSBC saying to call them. Turns out they didn't close the account, a direct debit had left it, and I was months in arrears. I managed to get them to drop the charges, begrudgingly paid the amount owed and finally asked to close the card.

Except - they still didn't! About a year later, I was applying for new credit, checked my history (now a bit more savvy than before!) and saw that the account was STILL open! I finally got it sorted around 6 months later - I had issues getting it sorted on the phone, not knowing details for an account I thought I closed 2.5 years ago, so had to write many many emails.

Lesson learnt from me - never using HSBC again!

Hope you get it sorted - though personally I'd take the hit and use someone else at this stage. They're absolutely rubbish.
  • They are just trying to fob you off - so when the terms don't arrive in the next few days send them a clearly written complaint letter (send by recorded delivery so there's no way they can claim they never got it) indicating your problem and your proposed resolution (ie. you get your card and perhaps some £££ for the time and effort wasted phoning them up several times). Not much else you can do beyond that - I can appreciate that you might really want the card, but you might need to ask if it is really worth this much to you... is the deal really THAT good?
  • To play devils advocate, I had my card within a week and never had any problems with payments and balance transfers.

I'm curious, did HSBC guarantee any time for your card to be delivered once approved for it?
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.
  • They said once the agreement has been signed it will be received within a week! Don’t hold my breath for that either lol
  • I received mine within a week of applying for it.
    Do you bank with them?
I bank with them so that could possibly explain why mine was so quick, but I've been with them nearly 20 years now and have never had an issue with them.
  • HSBC are well known for being slow when processing card applications to actually getting you a card.

As soon as you stop thinking about it..... they documents will arrive and before you know it.... the card.

Not entirely true, when using recorded delivery, a recipient can refuse to sign for the letter/item therefore not proving it was delivered, better to get a 'free' certificate of posting which is deemed delivered 2 days after sending.
