Utilita Price increase AGAIN!!

I just had email from Utilita saying price rise on 1st jan 2019
I loved the way they started the email tho

"In July, new Government legislation required Ofgem to introduce a price cap for all standard variable and fixed-term tariffs, commonly known as ‘default tariffs’, for customers paying monthly/quarterly and by Direct Debit. From 1 January, your prices will change to make sure they comply with the new cap. We’ve done all we can to ensure that this will not impact you too much but if your price is increasing and you’d like to discuss your options, please get in touch."

things looked good when I saw the 1st rates
For the first kWh used per day
31 Dec 2018
49.879p
from 1 Jan 2019 Day Unit Rate 1 (per kWh)
43.665p

then comes the 2nd rate lol

Day Unit Rate 2 (per kWh)
For the remaining kWh used per day 18.126p to 22.469p

love the way they reduce the 1st rate and then just Re add most of it to the 2nd tier

time to start comparing again to switch I think

The legislation is a difficult read for a man in the street (ie; me). In drawing up the cap, Ofgem has laid out a number of assumptions/requirements that suppliers have to comply with. No doubt all suppliers are going through the same mental gymnastics.

It's all those spam phone calls to me using up their funds so they have to increase prices to make up for it.

Personally, I'm highly surprised that Utilita has survived for so long with that dual price structure which penalises low users. My advice? Switch!

Unlike some suppliers, Utilita appears to be doing well. Customers up by 52% to 500000. Profits in 2016 were £24.4M falling to £18.9M in 2017.
