Car hire damage claim

I just received an invoice from a car hire company for the tiniest scratchings on the car. When i picked up the car, it was night time and raining, so I haven't got decent photos to fight the claim.

I took out external excess protection insurance. I have the following questions:

1) If i claim, will this become part of my claims history that I have to disclose to insurers?
2) Will this affect my premiums?
3) Will this affect any no claims bonus?
4) If i pursue the claim, will I need to notify my current insurance providers or wait until renewals before I declare any history?

I'm annoyed they are pursuing this, as the scratches are so faint and less than 2mm. I was mostly in the mountains in a residential home, so don't remember anything that could have done this and certainly wasn't noticeable enough to me when i did my leaving inspection.

Thanks for your time.
