Test drive insurance and other private selling hints please

Morning all

I'm selling my campervan and would like advice about insurance and test drives. I've read that it's best if I take out insurance for the potential buyer but I remember that when I did that for my son in law to drive it I had to submit various bits of info about him before getting it and it took a couple of days. That doesn't seem practical given that I'm likely to have hundreds queuing to have a go (some hope!)

What do other people do. Also can you give me any hints on the best way to sell it, I've had some interest before putting it up 'officially' but will advertise more widely in the coming week. It has a few problems such as rust around wheelarches and I'm not sure whether to have that dealt with before selling or not. It's quite old (Y reg - about 150k miles(but not antique or a so called vintage VW)

Thanks for any advice, I've never sold privately before.

DS

As the seller Id eave any test driver to supply their own insurance. I would check it prior to the test drive
  • Bear in mind that "driving other cars" on an insurance certificate means cars, not necessarily camper vans. So be very careful about letting would be buyers drive on their insurance as you might end up permitting someone to drive your vehicle while uninsured.

Drive it yourself with them as passengers, they can drive it when you get the money.

Indeed, but my concern was more the criminal offence the OP could potentially be committing rather than their potential financial loss if the test pilot damaged the vehicle.
