Hotel bill fiddles

This grinds my gears...

When I book a hotel, I usually ask for a price for bed, breakfast & dinner.

A couple of months ago, I booked a lovely hotel in Torquay for three nights. Every dinner the waiter would come to the table with the menu, and tell us about the chef's 'specials'.

These sounded lovely, so we ordered them on two nights. It was only on the 2nd night, my gf pointed out to me on the menu it said that the 'chef's specials' were at extra cost!

The third night, we made sure we just ordered from the menu.

This week, we spent two nights in Windsor, to visit Windsor Castle, (and made sure we only ordered stuff on the menu.)

Analysing my bill when we got home, we have about £26 of dinner items that ought to be included in the 'dinner'.

The hotel don't seem interested in refunding me. Should I refuse to pay Barclaycard?

Depends on the deal, many hotels 'dinner' is an amount against your bill, spend more and you pay extra.

You also need to check the bill and query amounts before you leave. Once you leave you could be deemed to have accepted the balance due.

Have you considered analysing the bill before you actually pay it?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Yeah. My dad used to do that, to his wife and family's embarassment. :)

A lot of hotels don't actually include dinner in rates, so it's rare to find one that includes dinner. Usually they allocate a certain amount to dinner anyway. If you're gonna order the lobster they'll obviously charge more for it than a burger! Also drinks are never included, so sometimes that could be the reason your dinner bill may be more than you thought.

    Thanks Sharon.

Oh, I already accounted for the drinks.

You'll be pleased to hear I wrote the hotel a polite email on their 'contact us' form last night, and this morning they have asked for my card no. for a refund.
