Final salary payment & Universal credit

Hello all, I have a query and am hoping someone could advise.
I have a young baby and am a single parent. I claim Universal credit presently having never done so in my whole 30 year working life. I don't really know much about how it works.
My previous employer has recently paid me for my holiday entitlement as my final salary payment. It was a large sum of £6500. My UC payment was understandably halted that month. I have no other savings and since paying rent and bills during the month I did not receive any UC, my savings have now gone down to £5500. This is all the money I have and is therefore below the £6K savings threshold.
Now, for the second month, my UC payment has been all but wiped out as deductions, due to the final payment noted above.
My query is that surely the £5500 should now just count as savings and not result in deductions in the monthly UC payment for a second (and possibly third) month. There is no other money coming in and no other savings. I am trying to get back to work but not yet successfully.
Could someone advise me please? Thank you very much.

That doesn't sound right. What are the start and end dates of your assessment period?
What date did you receive the final payment and when was your last payment from your employer before that?

Thank you for your reply.
The assessment period is 24 - 23rd of each month. Payment date is 2nd of each month.
I was paid by my former employer at the end of September so I subsequently didn't get a UC payment in November and now won't get one in December either it seems. It's just confusing as I would have thought it would now ben considered as savings.0 -

See the section on surplus earnings.
They aren't interested in your total savings unless it's above 6k.0
