Is it better to book a holiday in the January sales or Black Friday?!

Hello! Does anyone know if I’m better waiting to book a holiday in January or now using the Black Friday deals? We will be travelling with TUI.
Thank you 😊

Your choice, and just because they're being flogged as good deals, it's not a nailed-on cert that they are.

    Exactly

The standard retail procedure for black Friday is raising the price gradually leading up to the sale, and then dropping back to its original price and claiming its a huge discount.

Whenever you are buying, look at what you are getting for your money and how you value the product, dont just look at the % discount, because usually its just a discount of an inflated price.
  • We booked our usual holiday to Ibiza with Tui a few weeks ago after tracking the prices for a while. We did a dummy booking with them yesterday with the Black Friday discount and wouldn’t have saved anything as the price had gone up anyway. I have noticed that this happens every time Tui (and other tour operators I expect) announce special savings. They have always increased the price anyway. If Tui fly several times a week to a destination, as they do to Ibiza, you will find that they will have sudden good discounts on one of the flights at random, which is why we track them for a while before booking. It’s all a bit of a gamble though, so if you find a price you’re happy with incorporating the Black Friday deal, I’d go for it.

If the price on Black Friday is one you're happy with, it's better to book then and you can sit back happy in the knowledge that you have secured the holiday you want at a price you are happy with.
If you wait until January that holiday might not still be available.

Of course, as has already been pointed out, neither booking on Black Friday nor in the post-Christmas sales guarantees getting the best price...

  • I have been monitoring flights for next year (June) gone up from £610 a few weeks ago to £652 last week and £690 now - no offers on Black Friday - I'm hoping for either a pre Christmas sale or New Year.
£610 was a good price for me but could not book as holidays at work not yet confirmed - but hey ho!

If you are booking a Tui package then the best price you will get is on the Tui website. The Tui shop price is approx 10% dearer. I don't think the shop will match exactly their website they used to charge a £35 admin fee to match the internet price but i don't know what they do now.
Have you looked if any other operator does the package you want?
December is always a slack time for holiday sales so you could find a good deal in December.

It's best not to rely on TUI to handhold you at all.
  • Also worth pricing it up yourself with the diy flights and on trivago and the like to see if you can get a saving that way too. I think there’s a way of saving your flights on skyscanner so they will email if there’s a drop in price too

  • Just one more thing I would like to add - a lot of airlines now have started to sell flights with 'economy light' which means hand luggage only - so take care if you see a really cheap fare as it might not be all it seems - one bag is about £50!

I seriously doubt that the Black Friday deals are the best price going. TUI and other such companies analyse people's spending patterns down to the finest detail and take full advantage of key dates to encourage you to book there and then.

As mentioned above, track their prices and record how they vary.

I would suggest that the week before Christmas could be worth keeping an eye on as most people will be preparing for the festivites rather than booking a holiday. Travel companies don't like quiet spells and may drop the price to get you before Boxing Day when every travel company starts advertising like crazy on the television (and they don't want you to book with Jet2 do they!)
