Energy transfer gone very wrong

I’m trying to help my partner with a problem on her old house, has anyone experience or knowledge of the following:
Apparently in July 2017 someone knocked on her door and she spoke about changing energy suppliers, after a long conversation my partner thought she was going to switch gas and electric to a cheaper company.
She heard nothing more and her old company kept the direct debit running. She assumed that the transfer hadn’t happened.
She recently contacted her energy supplier as she was moving and was told the electricity was no longer with them. It had moved back in July last year, no final bill from them or no letters or contact from the new company. Her house had been empty since January, so there will be little usage but how’s best to resolve it?
Personally I would not have switched using someone knocking on the door but it’s strange that there has been no contact from this apparent new supplier.
Can she be returned back to her other company as if never left?

Try this
ukpowernetworks.co.uk/internet/en/help-and-advice/need-help/who-is-my-electricity-supplierNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Thanks - she knows who the new supplier is supposed to be, but she only has current read so she is unsure how they can sort the transfer so late after 1 1/2 years0

When a supply transfers, an opening/closing reading is agreed by industry if one isn’t provided.

The present supplier should be able to provide the reading that you are looking for. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
