This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

  • Morning all, thank you for starting the thread silver-oldie.

We had a wonderful couple of days with son and GF, they went off doing their own thing and came back to us in the evening. OH cooked last night, another huge meal, this time of chicken roasted in garlic and herbs, chicken and bacon parcels, samosas, pakora, Chinese style pancakes, salad and some chips. I managed a bit of everything but I'm not sure how the others managed to eat so much, especially since DS and GF had been out for a full English breakfast, a large lunch and nibbled things in between. Their lunch was in Birmingham’s Balti Triangle and they came back with a big box of Asian sweets for dessert and OH had bought a selection of chocolate, the posher variants. After this, even the two young ones admitted defeat. They are now off on their travels again until GF flies back to the states on Sunday.

I haven't slept very well, I haven't got indigestion as such but I woke at 3 feeling that I'd definitely had too much to eat over the past two days. I'm going to have a bath and then a nap I think. Other than a bit of tidying and hoovering, I don't need to do any housework.

Thinking of those of us who are sad, unwell or worried.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning everyone.

Yesterday was a quiet'sh day until it was time for DM to go to the optician. She insisted on walking from the car park and back, with a visit to one CS on the way. It was too much for her and she had to go to bed after it. Not good though it was her first outside trip in three weeks.

This morning I'll be doing the shopping run on my own and then get home. I have to be here again on Tuesday and Wednesday for DM's medical appointments. It'll be a bit frantic next week.

Right now I am merely contemplating getting up, I've been lying awake since just before six.

    Happy Saturday to everyone.

    Morning :)

Sorry to hear about Mum gers it must be hard for her to realise she cant run around like before.

SOgood luck with mum today I hope she opens her eyes for you :(

AOD sounds like a case of hollow legs :D I used to have those too and could eat for England without any effect. Course now if I look at food for a bit too long I pile a pound on.

So I managed to navigate Black Friday in MSE fashion. I used to take the day off work and buy all my presents and lots of presents for me too....not this year my present to myself is my holiday in December so no tat buying for me. I did however buy myself one gift ...the Hairy Bikers new book which was on sale for £6. I can resist most things but not a new cookbook :o Anyway that was it so Im happy with that.

Talking about mums mine managed to push the wrong button again yesterday. Next week I have courses every day but Monday so rang her to say we would be shopping a day early. You would think I had said I couldn't come at all...she had a tantrum again saying she had no choice in it and she would have to put up with it and she didn't like shopping on a Monday...they are not ready after the weekend. Classic comment why do you have to work on Tuesday thats shopping day.....because I am self employed mum and you are lucky to get me at all  :mad:She certainly knows how to ruin my day

Usual Saturday for me washing tidying age uk James Martin then I have some online coaching to do with one of my customers. Also have a pile of printing to do for next week and some prep. .....who would know its the weekend:cool:

Food wise I dont know yet but I fancy hot dogs for lunch then something healthier for dinner ...maybe a chicken salad

    Have a good day all

    Morning everyone

silver-oldie - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and I are enjoying first peaceful cuppas, I've only been awake and out of bed for the past 15 minutes, I've just eaten a couple of bananas that were going past their best - they'll count as my brekkie. Both boys now moving about too.

Dinner last night was a cheeky takeaway - that was delicious, tonight will be something more boring, possibly pizza and salad.

We got to the SM early yesterday and got the shopping done and I was home and unpacking in just over an hour, but again the SM's seem to be having supply issues with some products. We use a lot of fruit squash as 3 out of the 4 of us take packed lunches and a drink with us to work, yet again yesterday the squash that I buy was not available - they did have alternatives but we don't like the flavour of those. This morning I'll pop out and find somewhere to buy some as we don't even have enough to see us through the weekend.

Yesterday we were quite lazy and didn't really do that much, but this morning I must go and buy the fruit squash and newspaper, and do some ironing once I get back, as I don't have any uniform ready for work next week. DS1 went out last night and is going out today to watch our local team play an away game so he'll be going at 11am as it's over a 2 hour drive each way, he's then going out with his friends again tonight - ohh to be young again, I remember those days' of going out and staying out late and still being able to get up and go to work etc - can't do that nowadays so much!

    Keep safe and well x

Pouring with rain here and set in for the weekend I think I need to go shopping today I usually go with dd but they are away in Wales for the weekend so I will see if OH wants to go, actually I need to go to Mr T, Lidl and Aldi so maybe we will split up and meet back here the less shops I have to go in the better but I need things in Mr T that I cant get in Aldi and I NEED the gingerbread gin from Lidl :o

I might do a steak tonight with roasted tomatoes mushrooms and maybe a few chips with a decent bottle of wine, Specky you would be most welcome to come if you were nearer , go and speak to the girl, Ive never heard you talk about a girl with such enthusiasm, you never know she might be THE
    ONE !

No housework to do and the lovely cleaner came yesterday so its all clean, washing on the go though which will have to be dried indoors.

SO I hope your mum opens her eyes today !

    Have good days all xx

Morning. Not sure what we are going to do today. I got most off the shopping from Aldi last night but for the bits I can’t get I will go to Tesco later ok dh has just said he wants to go to town. Did the washing last night left in kitchen to dry. I put it in dryer to finish it off. It just needs putting away.
  • Good morning, it seems like quite a nice morning out there.

Yesterday went as planned, except that I did nothing all afternoon except doze off at intervals and read my library book.

Today Dh wants to go into Durham, so I'll shop while I'm out.

Nelski, I smiled at your Mum saying the supermarket wouldn't be" ready" on a Monday. It's exactly the sort of thing my grumpy old Dad would have said, but if I'd asked him how a supermarket couldn't be ready he would have exploded in a rage. He was a man of uncertain temper to put it mildly. Good luck anyway.

Glad you got your coat back Speky.

Silver Oldie, hope your Mum behaves herself.

Gers, sorry to hear your Mum is still not well.

Thinking of TA, and others who are sad or poorly

    Take care folks
  • Morning all

Thanks for the thread Silver oldie and hugs to all those in need.

Raining here today but we have nothing planned apart from a walk around the marina so we will stay dry and warm.

Ongoing temper tantrums from my tenant, it seems that when they redecorated the spent £7000 on one of the bedrooms, not what I would do in a rented house but I do feel guilty.

    Have a good day w.
    Hugs Hester
