lease company refusing to pay for clutch

What has mileage got to do with clutch wear? When I was in the haulage game I had units that would do 500,000 miles on a clutch yet I had shunters that would do 10,000.
In theory you could drive around the Nürburgring for 24,000 miles and use the clutch 5 times, or drive 24,000 miles around London using it thousands of times. They only wear whilst disengaging and engaging. (Or slipping of course)
However I did have a large discrepancy among certain drivers on both clutches brakes and fuel economy with the same type of vehicle, so driving habits do make a difference.0 -
I know someone that burnt a Fiesta clutch out in 7000 miles, reversing off the driveway at 6000rpm every day of the week soon took its toll.
This was a brand new clutch fitted when the original clutch burnt out after just a few months of ownership.
Feel sorry for the garage paying for the first replacement, but i had not seen her drive until after they replaced it for free.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

My neighbour does that it: takes her quite a long while at 6000 RPM too. I pity whoever buys her cars and pays top price because they are getting a "low mileage" car with lots of life left.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I pity her neighbours who have to put up with the sound of a fiesta engine revving at 6,000 RPM...0
