Extractor fan and cooker hood in kitchen

Interesting thread regarding my own problem with gas engineer, turning off gas fire because extractor fan in the cooker hood at max speed sucked into the room the exhaust from the fire in the adjoining room.
Options I thought I had were either to block off external outlet, or perhaps disconnect the max speed buttons on the cooker hood. seems the comments above about condensation - make the latter option a better bet.
A second opinion ventured that with any gas fire there, would require a ventilation hole being made - I know, I know sounds bonkers, after spending hundreds on double-glazing why would I want a hole in the wall!I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -

The appliance manufacturers should have been required to include a fresh air inlet to directly feed the burners, IMO. Same with open fires really as the installers otherwise put the vent in the other side of the room so that you have a massive cold draught across the floor
As for extractor fans, virtually no-one makes provision for the free flow of make-up air into the room to allow the extractor to do its job. Which is why they hardly ever work properly...0 -
When we had a cat-flap installed, with an inefficient draught excluder we could notice the slight draught of air coming in. We have resolved that once the cat passes over, we'll have it taken out and replaced with a solid pane.
Will be contacting IGEM tomorrow, so far no helpful - gas engineer correct, but hopefully come up with some viable solution.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0
