  • Hi TrustyOven

OFGEM's advice is to keep your Direct Debit set up.

Please take a look at our website for advice on what happens next.

    Kind regards

  • Hi Browntoa

OFGEM are advising Spark customers not to initiate any switches until after a new supplier is appointed for our customer base.

Our website has been updated with more information on that.

    Kind regards

I think the answer is yes. I am staying put, with Scottish Power now.
I was ready to press the switch button, then two more go bust!
No doubt the mass migration to smaller companies is over.
There will be people returning to the big boys.
    For peace of mind.
That is why they have done nothing about thier big losses, thet knew it was only a matter of time before this happened.
    They will be laughing.

And a lot of that will be down to people still believing they’ll get cut off or lose their credit balance if their supplier goes bust.

It is worrying for some of the financially stable medium sized suppliers as they will no doubt lose customers through no fault of their own.

In a worst case senario we could end up going back to the days when it was just the big 6 and all the progress made over the last decade or so to diversify the market will have come to nothing.

All we can do now is hope that OFGEM’s new stress tests will be applied to existing suppliers as well as new ones and that this will go some way to restoring public confidence in the market.
  • Help, I just bought a flat and got the keys on Friday. The previous owner was with Spark. What do I do now as I was going to set up my supply with a different company today and saw this. Am I tied to Spark even though I’m not their customer but the previous owner was? Thanks
  • Hi Nangus

If the supplier is currently with Spark, please don't try and change supplier just now, as OFGEM are in the process of appointing another supplier for our customers.

For the moment it's business as usual for me, I'm still here to help our customers, and you can contact me using the email address given in my profile.

For more information about what happens with regards to Spark Energy ceasing trading, please take a look at our website.

For now if the property is with Spark, I recommend contacting me as directed, and confirming your move in date, readings etc.

I should be able to help for the foreseeable future but if anything changes I'll try and let MSE know.

    Kind regards

I have stopped being a Spark Energy customer due to selling a rental property. However, Spark took more money via DD from me than I believe they should have. I am in the process of proving meter readings for the end of the last tenancy and the sale of the property. Where will I stand with regard to being contacted by whoever takes over the company's customers - as I am no longer a customer?
  • I've actually had a good experience with Spark up until now. I tried to switch away from them when I moved into my current property but they were so much more helpful and responsive than anyone I tried to switch to that I ended up staying put.

Just checked my energy tariff against Ovo's online and it's £30 a month more expensive!! This is a huge blow.
  • Hi lozzy1965

    Thanks for your post.

Your details will still be on file, and any customers with issues needing dealt with will get the help we need, it's just that until OFGEM appoint a supplier we can't give you much of an update on what the next steps will be.

If you want to contact me using the details in my profile, I will try and keep you updated.

    Kind regards

I started a switch away from Spark Energy more than 3 weeks ago and it's set to complete on Wednesday 28th November. I am in significant credit on my account and was advised at the time of the switch that I would get it back within a few weeks after the switch.

What happens now? Do I wait for Ofgem to appoint the new supplier and ask for the money back from them? How does this 'safety net' work? I'm still technically a Spark Energy company the day it went into administration.

    Thanks in advance
