Amex gold referrals

Me and my partner share a credit card. Currently it's the Amex which gives 1.25% cashback for a £25 annual fee.
If I switch to the Gold card, can we refer each other every 6 months and be an additional card holder on the other person's card to avoid the £140 annual fee?
I seem to recall reading someone that someone was doing this, but i can't find the link.

Potentially... you might need to keep the original card for a few months to get the referral points though I'd have thought? You then need to wait 6 months before you can re-apply/get referred for bonus points.
Sounds like it's possible, but I'd imagine that Amex would plug this hole in at some point.0 -
I've done this a few times no problems. Make sure you make a note of when the card is officially cancelled so you don't apply for a new one before six months is up. The referral points appear promptly.0

Cool.
Does anyone know what a point is worth?....I'm trying to figure out whether I should go for the Platinum cashback card again, or actually go for the gold this time.0 -
What a point is worth varies on how you redeem them. If you provide an idea of what you'd use the points for I could give you a better idea. Typically between 0.45p to over 1p for some redemptions. If you'd like a referral for bonus points let me know xxxxxxxx0

Hi
touting for referrals is not allowed here - there is a referrals board for that purpose.
