Car vandalism
Hi,
I have recently had my car vandalised (kicked in basically) to the tune of £2500 worth of damage.
I know who did it but have no proof.
However when we told police they didn't seem bothered and did a letter drop (in this day and age).
We have reported them to the council as they are council tenants but so far got nothing back.
I was just wondering if anyone knew any other avenues i could go down that might be of use? Or any authorities i could speak to regarding the violent nature of the neighbour who i am not even sure is meant to live there?
I am unhappy with the police (great job on the front line policing but seem to leave the rest to fend for themselves) not even going round to have a chat given the violent nature of his outburst and it also has me on edge when i step outside my own home.
In my mind what is to stop him doing it again and me having to fork out the excess on my insurance and probably have to pay more when i need to renew because i have had to claim.
Thanks in advance

Get a dashcam that will start recording when it senses movement, or a camera trained on your car. If he does it again you may have evidence that you can provide to the police.0

Remember this from a week or two ago? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-46063586
How much police time and energy do you want to divert from serious crimes to low-level vandalism?
Also: the fact you "know who it was", but can't prove it, suggests this was not random, but has arisen from some kind of personal civil dispute.0 -

This will depend - was there a specific trigger that caused this thug to damage your car? Is it a long running feud you have with them?
I'd keep a diary going forward, noting down any actions they take that can be seen as threatening or illegal (take times, dates, picture evidence if possible).
As mentioned above, dash cams or security cameras outside your home would boost your chances greatly. Even a motion-sensored light may be a deterrent to them.0 -
Nothing you can do really - either claim on the insurance and risk it happening again or just leave it. As you have reported it to the police you will have to report it to your insurers as either information only (if you are not claiming) or to get it repaired.
Consider moving or buying CCTV and flood lights for the next time.0 -

Do you have any evidence?
Do you see them do it?
Have you got a witness or cctv?
If not then the offender is unknown and the police have got better things to do than having a chat with someone you dislike.0 -
Basically I asked them to keep noise down at about 11.30 on a Sunday via a text as they gave me number ages ago. Next thing I know I was being screamed at violently through wall. In morning notice car is kicked in....no coincidence. Even police said it is someone next door.0

The Police have done you a favour really. What do you think would happen if the Police "had a word" with him, or worse, tried to prosecute and he got the usual telling off even if it got as far as court?
I'm sure he would mend his ways and send you a nice bunch of flowers as an apology (probably out of your own garden, wrapped round a couple of housebricks out of your wall)
There are those on here who always say that you should stand up to bullies, but unless you are prepared for The Chicago Way ("he pulls a knife, you pull a gun, he puts one of your guys in hospital, you put one of his guys in the morgue") you are going to lose if they know where you live and you have nice stuff that you care about.
Trying to get them evicted is the best way, but you are going to need more than the certain knowledge that it was him for that.
Personally, I'd suck it up for now, and wait a few months so that anything I did wouldn't be associated with that incident, likely he will have crossed a lot more people by then.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

So there's no evidence it's them, you won't get anyone in authority to do anything.0
