Mortgage Affecting Balance Transfer Approval?

Hello

I have just tried to do a balance transfer for my credit card as I am paying over £100 interest per month. When I have done this before, at the time I was living with my parents, I was offered lots of different cards with no problem at all.

This time round, my eligibility for a decent card has lowered dramatically - is this because I recently got a mortgage? I have only been at my property for about 3 months... I have also checked my credit rating and it has really gone down. Would this be because I have recently got a mortgage plus I am almost maxed out on my credit card which I know won't help.

If so, is there anyway of getting a decent balance transfer? Would actually going into a bank and talking to someone help instead of doing the check online? i have never missed a credit card payment I just don't want to be paying over £100 per month interest!

Thanks

  • Your mortgage will have had an impact to an extent, with the borrowing and recent change of address.

However, your maxed card is likely to be a bigger issue. Try paying it down to get away from the limit and then retry.

Ignore the CRA credit ratings but check the data on all three of your files to ensure everything is correct.

You are paying £100 a month interest because you have max'd out your card through spending - that and your current debt will be effecting your balance transfer options....or its the wrong time of year.

My barclaycard had on BT offers for ages then all of a sudden I had offers last month. Ignore the number that the CRA sites give you each month.

Whats your salary and your total unsecured debt?
  • One thing that might be a significant factor - are you registered on the electoral roll yet? If you're not, you'll find getting credit much MUCH harder.
