This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

  • Good morning, and thanks Silver-Oldie.
It's the usual damp cold morning out there.

You've had an early start, SO, another non sleeper. Actually, I slept till 5 o' clock then that was it, eyes sprang open and wouldn't close again.

Holly, it was good to see your post yesterday, thought I was seeing things when I saw your name!!

Hope you do find your coat Speky, what a maddening thing to happen.

I met up with Dil and others yesterday for lunch to celebrate her birthday, had a nice lunch and good chat. The restaurant was right in the city centre, several floors up, and we were seated beside floor to ceiling windows, so you could see the Christmas market that's currently on, and everything else going on, fascinating.
It was getting dark when we came out, though not long after 3pm but it was a dark day, with heavy showers of icy rain. I was glad to get home, though didn't have to wait long for a bus.

Meeting a few friends at D*bbies this morning, then it's the usual friends' night at someone's house tonight. That's it really. I'll do a bit of shopping on my way home from D*bbies

Hope everyone has as good a day as they can,

    Take care folks

    Morning All

I'm going swimming this morning, first time this week. Time to stop procrastinating and get on with it!

Good to hear from you Holly.
Sounds like you're settling in well Speky.
Hugs to you Poppy, stay strong.

Had a chat to both DSs yesterday, not often that happens, had to get one of them off the phone so I could go to bed, he could talk for Britain!

Friday - my favourite day, nothing planned but I really should get the housework done for the weekend. I'm meeting my best friend in Penrith tomorrow for the day - a big drive but worth it for the chat.

    Happy Friday, take care. XX
  • Morning all, a quick post as I need to sort the kitchen out.

We have DS's adorable GF with us for a couple if days before they resume their travels in Britain and she returns home. I mafea proper thanksgiving dinner last night, was nervous as making u familiar foods but it worked and was, apparently, authentic. Turkey, roast and mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, sprouts with crispy bacon, American stuffing, gravy. Then pumpkin pie with whipped cream. I was so full but others had second helpings. The pie is something I've never eaten, let alone cooked but it seems that I managed, through some fluke, to get the silken texture and spicing exactly right so I am being a bit boastful. It was quite a big pie and there is some left for tonight when Mr AOD is cooking a meal. He managed to source thanksgiving table decorations from Am*zone, they are good.

They will be out for breakfast and museum visiting today so I can do a bit of a Friday Tidy, but I did a more intensive Tidy earlier in the week so it won't take long.

Slept well until 4.30, it is cold and the weather forecast is dull, dull, dull, fog, fog, dull, dismal, mist in that order.

Sending positive thoughts to those who are unwell or worried.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning everyone

silver-oldie - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and myself up enjoying first cuppas, I'm showered, dressed and just finished brekkie. DS1 getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken made into a sandwich for DH DS1 didn't eat with us, DS2 had breaded chicken portion, jacket potato, and veg, I had jacket potato with salad. Need to sort what we're eating tonight. DH and I went out to a local town comedy club, it was a good night and the venue was pretty much full. Certainly would go again as these nights are quite cheap and held every so often.

Today I'll be heading to the SM first thing and then home to get the shopping packed away, just have an appointment for threading later.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning :)

Thank you for the start SO

Slept till 5 today which was better I think it was pure exhaustion after a rotten night on weds.

AOD that dinner sounds absolutely amazing ....how lovely of you to do everything in such an authentic way. Would have loved to have joined in :)

mehefin hope you got some Soreen its very addictive I get the little lunch box ones and they rock with a bit of butter for lunch

Speky I hope your coat turns up

Camelot enjoy your trip to Penrith hope you have your visa ready :D

So sandwiches lasted till 12 amazingly but I did kinda cheat by making more than normal so actually the first lot were actually woofed in the car park at about 7.15 :o

Had a great day I found the site easily and it was close to an NCP car park which was just a fiver for the day ...very cheap for such a central location. Traffic was really bad coming home but that was no surprise it would still cost a lot more for me to go by train with the ticket alone been 12 quid then parking at my local station about a tenner. More importantly though its nice to have the car to sit in for a warm and a sandwich :D

Course went really well so a good day all in all

Another prep day today for 2 courses next week and will have a bit of a Friday tidy but house is not bad for once. Work tonight :(

Food wise I have some left over tuna pasta to pick at so that will probably be gone by 10 :o

    Have a good day all
  • Thanks for starting us off, silver oldie. Sorry you were on the night shift. I hope you have a better sleep tonight.

AoD, what a feast you created, I'm sure your hard work was greatly appreciated. It all sounds absolutely delicious.

redruby, I hope the group goes well and a certain person behaves.

Glad your day went well Nelski, great sandwich strategy :)

How exasperating about your coat Speky. It's so annoying, but I agree it's worth checking in person.

Camelot, I too will have my first swim of the week today. There wasn't enough time yesterday as the residents' meeting took longer than I thought. All agenda items related to the upkeep of the building, nothing major, just minor maintenance issues.

Hester, your meal out with CHS must have been a welcome change of scene, and although brief, a break from cooking for you.

Csarina, you sound under pressure just now, and I hope the UTI is under control.

Gers, you're sounding on the way back after the lurgy. You keep a lot of plates spinning, take it easy when you can. I greatly admire your fortitude.

Sewing group this morning, swim this afternoon, a nice day to look forward to.

I hope yours goes well too. Thinking of Polly, taff, dumpling, and all poorlies and carers. Keep cosy, everyone. xxx
  • Morning everyone,

    It's Friday!

Yesterday, at lunch, I went back to the hotel I was staying in to ask again about my jacket. The lovely girl behind the counter looked and said she'll ask housekeeping. Cracking lass she was. I decided that if they phoned to say they had my jacket, I might ask for her number. Anyways, I get a call a few hours later and they did have it so I agreed to go and collect it after work. When I went, she was no where to be seen. It just wasn't meant to be I suppose. Nonetheless, I'm delighted I've got my jacket back. That'll save me a few bob buying a new one.

At night I was playing football with my colleague and his mates which was good fun. It's a shame that the game runs 9-10, cause by the time I get home, showered, ready for bed etc, it's after 11.

Got up and went to the gym this morning, which free's up my night. Do we have any golf fans on here? It's "The Match" tonight between Woods and Mickleson. A golf event with no spectators and the golfers have microphones, so it'll be like nothing ever before. As someone who works in sport, it's super interesting, even though I'm terrible at golf.

I thought I was going out with my colleagues tonight, so I've nothing in for dinner. I'll nip into Aldi en route home and at the same time, swing by Matalan where my new phone is sitting waiting for me to collect.

Holly - Lovely to see you back yesterday and glad things are going ok. Keep in touch when you can.
AoD - That sounds like a cracking meal you made. Really well done. Is DS's GF American?
Nelski - I recon you could hold off till 11...prove me right!
