But i noticed a while back that something like a KA will go from £20 or £30? tax to £120 odd. Just because its built after a certain date.
First registered, not built. Build date is irrelevant - except when it comes to eligibility for the 40yr £0 historic VED.

Same car i week older = £100 less to tax.
Just the same as either side of the 2001 move to CO2 taxing.
Just the same as either side of the 2006 addition of extra upper bands.

But thats just a small part in the actual running costs for most people.
Of course. But that didn't stop millions of people buying the wrong car for their needs to "save £10/yr".

Yes - he put it on the Order Form. Then sprung it on me 5 days later when I turned up.

No I wouldn't have. It also makes the car harder to sell within 5 years.

He wrote £140 on the order form which sounded right, so I didn't check (I know, I trusted the salesman). Also he waited to tell me when I turned up for the car 5 days later. £26 extra quid a month is a lot especially as I retire next year.
  • Right....

So he admitted to the mistake. That was the time to pull out of the sale.

But you decided to go ahead armed with the revised (and correct from his point of view) knowledge of the road tax.

He never said it's for one year. This was your statement. I don't see that he has any obligation to research this and correct it for you. He probably thought that you knew what you were talking about.
Sorry, I see no compensation here.
  • But genuinely wish you a happy retirement
