A lady that I know would like to buy a pc for her kid that is 8 years of age to give them experience of using a computer, she was going to buy an all in one but I'm not too sure about them,I have heard once one part breaks it can leave them knackered, she only has £200 to spend though,is it even possible to get something for that price she isn't able to go above that her budget was £150 to £200.
So if anyone has any advice as to what she could do it would be appreciated and any links would ge a great help,I think a monitor and a desktop would be better
Many thanks
She did mention Black friday and Cyber Monday but I'm not sute if anything would be based on this price range

Advice is dont buy an all in one. Plenty of complete computers out there for £50 with a decent enough spec.
Plenty of people giving stuff away these days. Old computers are worth very little. I have doorstops that will play Fortnite at a playable framerate. Nobody wants them.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I'd look on ebay for a Dell 7010, and I5 is preferable to an i3, then buy a separate monitor and cheap keyboard and mouse. Some one is going to spill or eat over that keyboard, so I do mean a cheap one.
Space permitting, avoid the usff, case. You should see a bit of change from £200
I would think something like https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dell-Optiplex-7010-Core-i5-3470-3-20GHz-8GB-RAM-500GB-HDD-Win-8-1-Pro-PC-Desktop/253994254768 On this more memory would be nice, an ssd would be great, and windows 10 is preferable. they all can be added later, but for a base price of £80 it is not bad.
Once you by a machine run diags overnight on it asap, especially on second hand one disk diags is a must. Probably free diags from Dell's site to download0 -
For an 8 year old I would be looking at a Chromebook.0

I bet some of these older pcs are probably better and more solid than a lot of the stuff being made today,I just bought an HP laptop and was astonished at the poor quality of case and screen compared to an HP that I bought for my son 4 years ago,I sent it back0

When it comes to second hand laptops here is a reason why the crazy people here suggest business models, and often mention Lattitude, Thinkpad and Tecra, rather than Acer and Packard Bell modelswilson1973 wrote: »I bet some of these older pcs are probably better and more solid than a lot of the stuff being made today,I just bought an HP laptop and was astonished at the poor quality of case and screen compared to an HP that I bought for my son 4 years ago,I sent it back
Yes, but there currently are some very nice business ones (and some REALLY nice ones) too. Ones that we use are nice, and in our setup you would not have any change from £2500. In about 4 years will be cheap and 'obsolete'.0 -
Yes I bought a Dell Latitude e7240 with SSD and HD screen with gorilla glass, grade A1 looks mint, ever so pleased with it,bought a mouse but the track pad is so nice haven't used it0
