Mastercard Charge

Hi,

I have just purchased 2nd hand motor with a Mastercard and the trader added 3% charge for using that card.

I normally use a debit card so I am a little unsure if this is allowed.

From looking around I think this was banned but I'm not 100% sure, if it is how can I get that back.

Credit card surcharges were indeed outlawed in the UK back in January, with some exceptions, such as company cards and pre-2018 contracts.

As per https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2018/01/cards-fees-to-be-banned-from-saturday/, you'll have to go back to the trader and highlight that they were in breach of the regs, and if they refuse to refund the 3% then you can take them to Trading Standards. Beyond that it would ultimately be Small Claims, but there's no redress available via the card company....

Yes its in breach of the rules although there isnt really anyone to enforce them.

Trading Standards seem to be useless when it comes down to enforcing
