Need some DDR ram, either:
256MB if its very cheap, or 512 or 1gb if it's reasonable.
I was quoted £10 for secondhand 256mb, which I thought was excessive, would have considered it if it was 512.

Have a look here .
http://www.ebuyer.com:80/store/Components/cat/Memory---Desktop
Do you know the speed ? ( pc2100 or whatever)
Do you know the full capacity of each slot on the motherboard if it is old it may only take 512mb or lower on each.
SH is normally ok but new is just as cheap or there is very little in it, get at least 512mb & if the motherboard can take it, 1gig stickNudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0 -
ebay, ebuyer or aria.
sometimes use scan.
i never use dabs. daft company.
ie aria, is 7.50 plus vat for 256mb. and 512 is 12.50 plus.Get some gorm.0 -
Funky Giraffe is generally the cheapest. Postage is only £2.50.
.e.g. 512MB DDR PC2700 DDR333 £12.99 or 512MB DDR PC3200 DDR400 £13.99 Incl. VAT.
Just make sure they test it before they send them out.0 -

At nearly double the price of some of their competitors, I don't expect the OP to be falling over himself to use Crucial.0 -
Crucial were the best value for mac memory, I don't know about PC, but I thought it was worth a suggestion!0

For a bargain, I'd say eBay - a search. Make sure to avoid the high-density modules though - read this.
If in doubt whether high density (HD) or not - i.e. not mentioned in the ad - just provide me the brand & part number (ask seller if not provided). I'll help to determine whether they're HD or not. Stick to branded (non-generic) memory like Crucial, OCZ, Corsair, TwinMOS, Rendition, Kingston, Geil, Mushkin, Hynix, Nanya, Infineon, Samsung (see below), Micron, Dane-Elec, Elixir, VData, etc. If we're unable to determine whether HD or not, simply do NOT buy. You may have to be patient to get it for the price you want, & don't only bid for the best/platinum/premium/etc modules.
I've bought DDR RAM on 3-4 occasions off eBay - no problems. G
Edit 1: Please post your motherboard make & model (or PC make & model if applicable) when you reply
Edit 2: If it's Samsung branded, just be a little extra suspicious concerning HD - read this.0 -
If in doubt, email the seller with details of your motherboard, to confirm compatibility.
Most cheap memory will be HD, but that doesn't mean that it will be a problem.0
