Don't you just hate that?

I'm allways doing it, I just did it just now, I usually do it with water (as was the case just now).

I put a pan on to heat up, and remember later when all the water in the pan has condensed onto the kitchen walls / windows.

I've burned rice a few times too.

Eggs!! I'm useless with them. The amount of times I have left them so long they have exploded is unbelieveable. I've just bought myself a kitchen timer to stop this problem.

Luckily I won a fantastic set of Stellar pans and they resist all my efforts to ruin them

I burn pasta, rice and potatoes on a regular basis and have switched to stainless steel pans as the non-stick ones were impossible to get clean. The smoke detector definitely works though.
