A few years ago I had to delete a name.surname gmail account that I'd had since Google first created Gmail, as I began getting mail for an American with the same name....all because she had included her middle initial which matched the last letter of our first name, so her dentist, doctor, 'real estate' agent and any hotel booking system helpfully 'corrected' it and I got the emails.
I forwarded them onto her after we'd made contact, but I eventually got tired of getting more and more and decided to quit that email address.

Of course, yes, it gives too much personal information away in the present hacking culture.
