Argos Mastercard Advice Please

in Credit cards
 I applied for an Argos Mastercard early in October via their website and I was accepted, after the postal strike ended I received a welcome letter and a pin number, the letter stated that the card would follow, a week or so later a letter arrived to say that I had been accepted for payment insurance, the following day another letter arrived asking me to activate my card and to start using it, as the card had not arrrived I telephoned Argos and explained this to them, I was told that other customers had experienced the same problem and that the card was in the postal system and would arrive within 5 days, today 7th November I received another letter saying how sorry Argos where that I had requested to close my account and that I should destroy my card as it had been cancelled, I was furious after waiting around for the Postman for 5 weeks and planning how to re arrange my finances in time for the New Year so I gave them a call today only to be told that Argos had made a mistake accepting me when in fact I had been refused, therefore they had cancelled my card, which proved that they were lying when they said it had been sent out nearly two weeks ago as I never received a card from them, I could understand someone making a simple mistake but I passed the credit scoring, a welcome letter was issued followed by a pin and a payment protection letter sent, surely this should not be allowed, does anyone know where I stand ie Is there anything I can do about it

Sorry I can't give you any specific advice, but I totally agree with you about the shabby, underhanded tactics of Argos Mastercard staff. I have experienced the following problems with them since obtaining this card early in the new year:
1) Name spelt wrongly on card.
2) I wasn't asked for a password at the time of applying for the card (the person taking the application just made one up without telling me) so I had problems accessing details on the card to start with.
2) After resolving that issue, I was sent a personalised application to apply for the same card, but with the additional incentive of 0% for 6 months on balance transfers. When I called up to have this offer transferred to my current card (or to obtain another account with this addition) I was told I could not take up the offer.
3) When I called to pay off the balance in full & to cancel the card, I was told that after paying off the card I would need to call back the next day to make cancellation. Was also told that I would get confirmation of cancellation within 3-5 working days. This didn't happen.
4) Tried to get a refund on a Argos product that had been purchased before the card was cancelled, but Argos wouldn't do this without confirmation that the card was cancelled. Cust Serv staff initially said I had put the card on hold. When I told him that I had requested it be cancelled, he put me on hold for several minutes before denying his previous statement, and saying that I would have to speak to another dept the following day. Called back twice from within the Argos store and got the same character who refused to let me speak to a manager and kept putting me on hold pretending that he was consulting with the manager. After eventually telling me that he would confirm the relevant details to the Store manager (to enable me to get my refund) he waited for me to pass the phone to the store manager, then told the manager that he wouldn't discuss the account details. Then he ended the conversation.
5) Got charged £3.10 interest on the next months statement even after paying the balance off in full in the previous month. In the absence of any correespondence since cancelling the card, this could potentially end up having a negative affect on my credit record had I not detected it at this time.0
