Safeglaze gone into administration. Advice needed!

Hi folks,

Just found out today that Safeglaze have gone into administration and they fitted our front door. We're now having issue with the door, as some moisture is coming through the bottom of the door. They sold it with a 15 year guarantee.

Will they still do work whilst in administration? I didn't think they would and I'm worried we're now paying for a door that can't get fixed.

Also, what will happen with the payments as they've gone into administration? The payments are to a lender named Omni Finance.

Thanks

  • It's actually a good thing that you have paid for this on finance - I presume finance that Safeglaze aranged? If so, they are jointly liable with Safeglaze for the conformance of the contract - so speak to the finance company if you are having no luck with the door company. However - how long ago was the door installed, and what does the guarantee cover?
  • The guarantee covered all parts of the door and its surrounding for 15 years. The door was only installed about 6 months ago 😭

Edit- tried phoning them today and the line isn't even connecting. Looks like they've shut up completely.

Their website is now just an info page directing you to the administrators. Rang them and left a voicemail asking about the guarantee of the work and what now happens to the finance.

Hopefully will get some solid answers

Then contact Omni Finance and explain the situation. They are just as liable as Safeglaze as they provided the finance.

Bear in mind ... you (probably) won't be making payments to SafeGlaze - you'll be making them to Omni. (Omni most likely paid the load value to SafeGlaze at the start of the contract). Therefore the fact that SafeGlaze have gone into administration doesn't mean you can stop paying. (Just in case this thought had crossed your mind).
  • I hadn't thought about that to be honest, I was worried that I'd be paying for a door that wasn't covered for work anymore but if Omni are liable for the work then that's a big relief.

Section 75 makes the credit provider jointly liable with the seller for the performance of the contract* - provided that the finance is directly attributable to the contract.

E.g. You buy windows and doors and the seller arranges the finance - Covered
E.g. You buy windows and doors having first taken out a loan from the bank - NOT Covered

    * This includes all contractual terms, including any warranty offered.

Why would the company going bust, mean it can't be fixed?
    It's simply a door.

You omitted the inferred statement ... without us having to pay for it. ;)
  • Spoke to Omni who now have a dedicated phone line to deal with Safeglaze's mess.

Spoke to a lovely chap who reassured me they were taking on the work and the 15 year guarantee. They're currently in the process of appointing a contractor to do the work that, that they'll contact us when they do and then the contractor will come to assess and then complete the necessary work.

Thank you all for your help, I wouldnt have thought to contact Omni were it not for you guys 👍🏻
