Hello
I have been trying to help a friend remove starware from her computer but
I cannot get any program to download and install on her computer e.g. AVG free CCleaner ewido or ad aware spybot ...when i try to run the files once downloaded i recieve an error saying windows32 does not recognise this file
I have tried the slow way of trying to remove the files by rum cmd and regedit and have removed the active infection but the files are still present on her computer and will probably reactivate next restart
Any one know why i can't instal any downloaded files
her system properties states: Windows Xp
home edition
service pack 2
my friend says it is windows vista though

Have you removed this programme via the add/remove in the control panel?
If it is vista then Windows defender is installed - can you run this?0 -
that was the instuctions i followed earlier, but couldn't complete them fully due to files not being foundetc
My problem is that ontop of this spyware infection her computer will not allow any downloads to install

At the moment i'm waiting on a USB flash memory thingy so i can download the programs (spybot etc) on my computer and transfer them to her computer as the download process may be causng the problems with installing
(i will try in safe mode)
It was happening a few months back to her comp when i downloaded AVG and Ccleaner for her, i left as it was going to take an hour or so for download to complete and gave her the install instructions, but she didn't tell me that she couldn't install them
I have managed to stop the starware from annoying her each time she is online but it is still registered on her comp and may reinstall itself
any help will be very much appreciated
