Council issued ticket with incorrect registration

Hi,
I received a parking ticket from a London council and they have put the wrong registration number on the PCN. They have mistakenly put ‘64’ when my car reg is ‘54’. I am unsure if there were any pictures taken, you can only check if they’ve sent the pcn to home address but it was put on my windscreen.
Where do I stand on this? Do I have to appeal this or should I leave it?
Thanks!!

Got over to Pepipoo.com and their council ticket forum, where the best expertise on such council tickets resides.
In short, if they've got the number wrong, then the penalty is dead in the water. They can't reissue with the correct number later.
The folk on Pepipoo will tell you the approach you need to take, though: whether to respond or keep quiet.0 -

Incorrect VRM is fatal to a council PCN. As you say it's incorrect, it's highly likely you will receive anything through the post.
You could write to the authority saying the ticket (which does not relate to your vehicle) was placed on the windscreen obviously in error. DO NOT send the actual ticket in as you should hold onto it for now.
Or you could sit tight and see if anything does come through the post.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0
