Wickes black Friday deal

I am looking to purchase a garage door from wickes. They have a black Friday deal 15% off click and collect only and I phoned them to check. This discount does not apply if you want delivery even if you pay wickes for delivery. Therefore the only customers who can buy anything that will not fit into a car are tradesmen unless you hire a pick up truck or pay a contractor to collect it. Surely this is not in the best interests of the ordinary DIY customer and discriminates against them in favour of tradesmen. Come on wickes play the game look after your DIY customers.

It sounds like theyre just not taking orders on the products.

For deals like this theres nomrally more at play than just you wanting to buy something cheaply.

IM assuming this is a good offer hence why you where willing to buy it. Offers can be put out by retailers as an incentive to visit their store. So you go in for the garage door which is on offer, making little money or even a loss but it gets you in the store, from there they wow you with there other products and you buy a more profitable item.

Its part and parcel of the world we live in. Eg amazon are generally quite a cheap retailer, if you want advice on a product youre going to struggle to get it from amazon, if you donty know exactly what you want to buy youre not going to get an adviser making recommendations. Where as you need a sander from wickes you know you can go in speak to a member of staff and get a recommendation for a product you can take away immediately all be it usually more expensive.

I worked for B&Q and we would regularly hold events where sale items where sold at a loss to drive footfall. You know how you always walk out of B&Q with an orange bucket? Huge mark up, the £10 B&D sander you went in just to buy, no mark up.

Its the retail game, dont hate the player.

Your rant is misplaced. Wickes garage doors are supplier delivered and are not available to click and collect, so the 15% discount on click and collect items is not available, even if you have a lorry (won't fit in a Transit).

Just to add to my previous comment, I have an office job and I own a Transit for moving bigger stuff around. I'm not a tradesman, just an ordinary DIY customer, so don't make assumptions

The problems with being a private individual with a proper van are manifold though. From the council that get uppity about me taking my domestic refuse to the tip in it, to everyone that knows me saying "You've got a van, can you help me move (large item)", never mind multi storey car parks.

Thank you all for your advice and points of view. Wi ckes have said they will look into it. When you proceed to buy any garage door online the 15% black Friday banner follows through page by page until checkout. I only found out yesterday that they havestopped selling garage doors in store.......
