Pension Credit

Hi all, I have for the last few months been dealing with my deceased mothers estate. I have received a letter from DWP requesting a breakdown of the assets that were submitted in order to receive grant of probate, the letter also advises of the possibility of a claim being made against the estate.
I was dealing with my mothers affairs for the last couple of years of her life, she prior to this was receiving pension credit until she exceeded the threshold for it. After this she received state pension plus some other non means tested benefits. I dont have the date to hand that she ceased receiving pension credit.
Over the last number of years she became less mobile and more housebound, therefore she started to accumulate / save higher amounts of cash. I dont feel anything wrong has been done, should i be concerned?
Thanks

The DWP may be wanting to check whether your mother had more than £10,000 in savings, and if so, how much more. Your mother may have received too much Pension Credit if she/you did not inform the Pensions Service when her savings went above £10,000.
You might need to put together details of her savings balances over time, and show that her capital did not go above £10,000 until after she stopped receiving pension credit. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -

Probably not. The DWP have a department that looks at the estate left by anyone on means tested benefits.
The first letter you get is a holding letter that isn't specific - it just lets the executors know that the DWP needs to check all entitlements were correct before they distribute the estate - it can sound quite intimidating.
The downside is that their investigation can be very slow.
