switches being rejected by existing bank.

Hi there I am trying to help my 18 year old son switch from a Lloyds Under 19 current account to a Nationwide FlecAccount.

The switch has been rejected twice now by Lloyds !

We have had no explanation from Lloyds, but nationwide stated technical issues from Lloyds the first time and no explanation this time.

Any ideas why this might be ?

I am doing the admin for my son as he is badly dyslexic and has ADHD, so trying to get him to explain himself on the phone is a nightmare, and obviously they won't speak to me.

It looks like he is going to end up with two current accounts and no switch bonus at this rate !

Thanks if you got to the end :)

Does the fact its an under 19 account exclude him from switching ?

Have you considered maybe setting up POA so you can help your son ?
  • That’s what I was wondering.
I don’t think POA is appropriate because if my son really wanted to sort it out he probably could but he’s just so used to me doing things for him.

The most common reason for a switch being rejected is because the debit card details stated are incorrect or he has an active card registered on the account despite you putting he hasn't on the switch form.

The bank staff are able to tell you this. Current account switches have rejection codes on them

If they can't tell you this, it's probably not a good idea to switch to them as sounds like they are a bit hopeless?
  • I have included his debit card details in the switch form so I don’t think it’s that.
Nationwide said it was due to technical issues with Lloyds, we did have problems logging on that week.
Unsure why they’ve rejected it the second time.
I’m with Nationwide myself and haven’t had any issues with them.

No, the bank staff can only tell the son, not the parent.

If the son doesn't want to speak to the bank, perhaps the parent could help the son to write a letter to the bank asking for an explanation?

If there is any evidence that it's the U19 account that is the issue is it possible to have it converted to a standard current account at Lloyds and then do the swithch to Nationwide?

Or possibly easier, open a donor account at Lloyds, switch that to Nationwide, and just close the U19 account.
  • Thanks all for your help.
I have come home today to a letter stating the account is not eligible for a switch.
I have converted it to a standard current account and will try again once the new debit card arrives.
