in Credit cards
Hello everyone I hope your well I’m looking to possibly get some help and advice regarding a HALIFAX credit card that I opened on Wednesday evening with instant acceptance.
I then completed 2 balance transfers the following morning into this new Halifax account and that again went through without issue and the funds received into the other accounts that same day.
Today 5 days after opening the account I received a letter from Halifax stating after further checks I’m no longer accepted for the credit card and if I hold a balance to call the helpline.
I already have a HALIFAX credit card and have done for over 2 years without issues currently holding a balance from a money transfer a few months ago. I thought it was really strange and contacted the number on the form and the lady I spoke to couldn’t tell me why I was refused other than saying I passed the first stage but the second stage failed ?
She also said she would need to call me back as she wasn’t sure how long I would now get to repay this balance that is now on the card. She then called me back 20 minutes later to say she’s checked the application again and the decision is correct and the payment needs to be made within 14 days if not it will then go to collections and my credit report adversely affected
I obviously complained and she’s asked to now take it back to her manager as she agreed the balance transfers shouldn’t have gone through etc
So the question is where do I stand legaly with this please do I now really only have 14 days to find £900 it seemed extremely unfair if it’s the case
Thank you

I guess because you already have a card with them you can only hold the one0

Thanks for the reply I appreciate it I did mention that to the lady on the phone and she said it was nothing to do with already holding a card, and it was declined following further checks from credit reference and fraud agency’s so I’m at a loss now.0

Since speaking to the lady this afternoon the new account has now been removed fully from my online banking page so I don’t know how I’m now supposed to make any kind of payment now the details have been removed
I’ll await her call back tomorrow and see what she has to say hopefully I’ll just be able to do a balance transfer back to the old account but not sure if that’s possible now it’s closed down0 -
A balanace transfer doesn’t close down a credit card unless you tell them to.
It depends on the reason why the account has been closed down as well0 -
It might be wise to check your credit files to check if there's anything untoward on there. Make sure you check the three.0

I hope you get it sorted OP sounds like a nightmare, personally I never do BT,s onto cards at time of opening I always wait a few weeks until everything is 100% finalised I find this a useful safety net to have.0

Thanks for the reply checked all 3 reports as I do every month and nothing that would cause them concern that I can see. Fingers crossed they will give me a better answer tomorrow0

I would go straight in with a formal complaint about what you were told by the operator. It is too late for them to back out of the deal now. They can prevent you from using the card further but what is done is done and they will have to stick to the agreement, you have not broken the terms.0

I am sure there will be a term in the agreement saying that you will have to pay back whatever in the account within 14 days upon request.0
