Travelodge have lots of £19 rooms available at mo for the dates you're looking for. I can recommend the Farringdon near Kings Cross. Stayed recently and was very peaceful, apart from slight street noise if you have a front room and keep the window open. Number 63 bus stops right outside the hotel and is just a few stops to Kings Cross/St Pancras one way and Blackfriars/Waterloo the other way.
Hope that helps
ETA: Just checked and London City Road Travelodge currently have £19 rooms for the whole of your stay and is a newly refurbed hotel so should be very comfortable.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

That is a bargain, buses in the area are good.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

Are they? I've not stayed at this hotel before so not sure what transport is like in the area, although I believe it's close to a Northern line tube so with a travelcard should be easy/cheap to access most places in central London.
I might book a night there myself to do a bit of sales shopping as there seem to be plenty of £19 rooms still available

And don't forget your 'Oyster card'. You buy the card for £3.00 but if you hand the card back you get that back. You charge it up with whatever amount you like, using either cash or credit/debit card. Then your journey costs are capped at £4.80 per day irrespective of how many and how long your journeys. It also works on the buses and on the DLR (Docklands Light railway).
A word of warning tho, if you use the oyster card to get into a station ALWAYS make sure you 'check out' at the end of your journey or it will automatically charge you the maximumm daily rate. Some stations do not have barriers so you have to look for the yellow 'button' and put your oyster card on it to complete the process. It was so easy to use and no worries about zones or anything like that. Can't complain at around a fiver for all day travel eh!:T0 -

Location wise its good. About 3 mins walkto Old street tube station and about a 5 minute walk to liverpool street. hop on a bus to Angel islington - nice bars /resturaunts etc thats about 5 mins. Buses into central run to liverpool st/ kings X/ and beyond.
www.tfl.gov.uk good for transport options, shows all bus routes. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

Some great advice here, I'm taking it all in for my trip, cheers to all!
To OP, I've spent last few days trawling the TRavelodge deals and some are going fast so I wouldn't hang about. Apparently, it takes a few hours for the orange square to disappear when all rooms have gone.
This website is far better than TI services for expert tips and help, perhaps we should set up our own Info service!0 -
Thanks so much all of you for spending the time to post. I hope others are benefitting from all the wonderful expertise here. taffy0

A few of my own tips for London:
1. Museums are usually free.......I like the British Museum and the Imperial War Museum (useful bit of trivia - the building was the original Bedlam asylum). Just outside the Imperial War Museum there is a nice pub (sorry forgot the name) full of memorabilia about Charlie Chaplin as his parents used to frequent the place. Next door is a lovely building which was the home of Lt Bligh of "piracy on the Bounty" fame.
2. Great fun walking around the East End.....see Petticoat Lane, best on a Sunday, and finish for a superb value curry in nearby Brick Lane. The "Jack the Ripper" walks are good value for about £6. Obviously stop off at any of the old pubs like the Blind Beggar or the Princess Alice to take in the atmosphere.
3. Use www.lastminute.com for superb value for a show and a meal. These are £20 and as often as not you will end up with an upgraded seat at the theatre. The restaurants for the meal are usually good but I like La Tasca for the portion size and Planet Hollywood for the film props.
4. Hark well the advice about the Oyster card already given. Truly amazing VFM. Just jump on a bus (any bus) jump off at anywhere that looks interesting and then catch a tube back as these are easy to use and understand.
5. Lots of pubs have quiz nights. Well worth a visit usually.
I am sure that you will enjoy your trip......London is a fascinating city.

Thank you so much for that Terry. So will try the lastminute.com and see what comes up. I love the stuff about the original bedlam and things like that fascinate me. Thanks again mate. My son would love planet hollywood. TaffyA few of my own tips for London:
