    you missed one too.

    4wd on winter tyres > 4wd on A/T tyres > 2wd on winter tyres > 4wd (on crap tyres) > 2wd.

I didn't miss it because it wasn't part of the discussion. If you're going to expand it to include every type of tyre there is it'll be a much longer list.

Well its relevant as some 4wd have AT tyres, so the people saying that winter tyres > 4WD need to compare correctly.

All those people who think that just buying a 4WD vehicle for winter will be the solution to all their woes when all they need to do is just buy winter tyres for their current car.....

Studded tyres or chains or covers cheaper option

That said I got up hills on my bike with 35c off-road tyres passing people in the big Chelsea tractors stuck in snow on maybe 5% gradients while they wheel spin away, considering studded tyres for the winter if it's as bad as people keep saying, fortunately they're a lot cheaper for the bike than fitting to my car!

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

And here I am at 67, been driving for 50 years & never yet felt the need for special tyres in the winter. For the few days there is snow on the ground I drive more carefully.
    Exactly this.
I've driven across the A66 in some horrendous weather in the days before they fitted barriers to stop you using the road if it's bad. One particularly memorable winter I saw a Police Range Rover slide off the road in the snow behind me & my little Fiat Uno. No, I didn't (want to risk a) stop. I figured "they've got radio". They were just everyday tyres.

    Careful. remember red means stop.

also, yeah you are comparing your pushbike to a car.. hmm tiny skinny tyres vs much wider ones. hmm yeah i can see thats a good comparison. well they are sitting in nice warm leather not freezing their brass monkeys off

If it gets really, really bad. I've got a full set of chains for my 4x4.

That said, I don't usually use it in the winter. It's too cold and was built with no consideration for secondary safety.
