Filling Out PIP Form

Is it mandatory to fill out the extra information section in the PIP form. Is it an automatic rejection if you leave this blank, but fill out the rest of the form. I am unable to explain in writing the issues rather do it in person with the dwp health professional.

I would advise you to put as much information as possible down on that form and use extra paper if you need to. Don't leave it to the face to face assessment to explain how your conditions affect you. There's never enough of time during the assessment to be able to explain everything.
This is the problems that people have. They misunderstand what the form is for and end up being refused that benefit because they haven't fully explained how their conditions affect them on each question.
Make sure you send the evidence with the form too because they very often refuse to accept it from you on the day of the assessment.0 -
I agree with Penny.
Why not use this link to go through each question?

I was rejected pip years ago because I put as much information down as possible, however when it came to health pro assessment day, she mentioned everything i put on my form 6 months ago, which i forgot and didn't record it. She said you said on your form xyz explain that further. So, when it came to reconsider it at the tribunal they use what you said initially along with the health pro interpretation to refuse you because there is conflicting information or new information you have added at a later date. It has to be consistent, which is impossible at a health pro assessment as they ask you to explain further on top of what you have written 6 months ago.
Why would they refuse to take your evidence on day of assessment? Do they verify it before accepting it?0 -
There's one simple way to get around forgetting what you wrote on the form. Photocopy it before you send it off. This way you can refer back to it before you attend the assessment.
If you have your own thoughts on how to fill out the form why ask the question here?
I have no idea why they refuse it on the day but it's happened to me twice and it's happened to many other people too. Don't take a chance, send it with the form.0 -
Why ask here, because i may be wrong. The fact is at the assessment you will give new information and if it conflicts with what you wrote, which most probably will you will be refused.
Yes, I will send in evidence before the assessment day.0 -
If you wrote the truth how can you forget how your conditions affect you? if you're asked during the assessment to explain further i don't know why you would need to remember what you've written. That's something i'll never understand. I would never forget how my conditions affect me.The fact is at the assessment you will give new information and if it conflicts with what you wrote, which most probably will you will be refused.
Yes, I will send in evidence before the assessment day.
I can understand if you've written on the form how far you can walk and you forget that distance because when we do walk we don't measure the distance every time.
I recommend you send the evidence with the form and not at a later date. Sending it later may mean that it's not forwarded onto the assessment providers and it may not be used. The decision maker relies heavily on the assessment report and usually awards what's been recommended.0
