Energy firms likely to miss smart meter deadline, warns Which?

Large energy suppliers will need to triple the number of smart meters they are installing to meet a 2020 deadline, consumer group Which? has warned.

It said firms would need to install 30 smart meters a minute, every day, for the next two years to replace the 46 million existing meters.

At present, large energy suppliers are only putting in 9.7 meters a minute.

This has been the case since 2016 - so it really is old news. I doubt that energy firms will be at all bothered as consumers pay the fines for missed rollout targets.

Lagamorph absolutely right. Fed up of the almost daily texts "we are in your area" and no way of opting out - I don't want a smart meter until there is a truly industry standard (and even then not particularly interested).
