This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
bellabella - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still dark here, but air definitely feels coole, no frost though.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit.
Lunch yesterday was late but was delicious roast chicken, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, HG sprouting broc, peas, yorkshires and gravy. Some LO's but not so much left after second helpings for 2 of the 3 menfolk. What's left is in the fridge. Dinner tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, fish and veg for me.
Went to visit the parents yesterday morning and my bro had visited them and was getting ready to go home, so was good to see him if only for a brief time.
I'm taking some annual leave and have quite a "to do" list. Having a catch up with my friend, haven't seen her since before the summer, so loads to catch up on. We thought we'd better get a catch up organised now as she has 2 children that are still primary school age and so December is spent attending too many school events and trying to get all the xmas stuff sorted! I remember those days! I'm hoping today can be spent doing a few bits this morning, buy my rum for my xmas cake, so I can get the fruit soaking. I'm so behind this year, I can't believe how quickly the year has flown, probably not helped by mum having her stroke New Years weekend and spending 10 weeks in hospital, and we were back and forwards visiting, then the weeks since.
I'll just keep going and everything I'm sure will come together.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Hope you all had good weekends, they go so quickly!
Not as cold here as it has been for a few days but still chilly. It makes a change for the weekend to be so bright and sunny.
Went to the Country Living Fair yesterday, it was really good. I got a couple of things, mainly food that I can put away for Christmas. Shame I was driving as there were so many stalls giving samples of gin! Nipped into town after to pick up a couple of orders, it wasn't as busy as I had expected.
I've wrapped 2 presents to go to Oz, will get them posted this afternoon. Going to DDs on my way home for my tea, always good and no cooking for me.
Thinking of those with worries, take care. XX0 -
Morning
Feels a lot colder here today heating on for a change.
Well I reached my goal yesterday and filled 2 large sacks for charity. I got into it in the end and was even flinging the things that had sat for months in the ironing basket with the logic that it just wasn't going to happen. Spare room looks lovely now although lurking in the cupboards is still a lot to be thinned out didn't even start on the shoes and bags.
Today I need to start on a proposal for work and just have a general tidy downstairs as I have guests for the book club tonight.
I had my HM chicken kiev last night and it was a monster one so some chicken left today which will make a nice wrap for lunch then its the pub for food later.
I think I have killed my trusty frying pan... thick layer of black on the bottom now which is colouring food. Anyone got any ideas for shifting it or if not some recommendations for a new one? Thanks in advance
scarlet ribbons good luck for today
Have a good day all :A0 -
Morning all
Nelski have you tried the clothes washing powder ? put some in the pan with water bring to the boil and leave overnight ? this is good at getting bits off, also try Coke same thing boil and leave, good luck xx
Much colder today seems we have the weather from the USA blowing a hooley too.
I got the photos yesterday of the memorial plaque for ww1 in the church and have uploaded them to the lady who was asking for them I hope this helps her with her research.
Roast chicken tonight all coked and ready it will just need heating up, I love an easy meal like that, we had an M + S stuffing mix lurking in the cupboard for ages so I made that up and it was so tasty :j I will be getting that again !
Nothing too much to do tonight will have to get all the Birthday presents out and see what Ive got, they could be wrapped as well.
Have good days all and stay warm xx0 -
Morning all.
Chilly here, that nasty east wind is blasting in from Scandinavia again, my least favourite westher.
Yesterday I spent a great deal of time trying to get through to JL - first time I was on hold for 40 minutes. I eventually got through a bit later and was promised a callback from the Glasgow shop. Five hours later my mobile rang - once - I had it in my hand and didn't get it even halfway to my face when it rung off. I'm so annoyed with them, phoned back to CS, that agent was very embarrassed. Anyway, promised a callback this afternoon.
Later in the evening DM sent me texts and emails saying her boiler had stopped working. A friend who was visiting opened up the cover, no electrics. He hauled out an old convection heater for her. The irony is that just on Friday she lent a neighbour her halogen heater. I rang her heating engineers and left a voicemail about an emergency call out. This morning I found an email from DM telling me that it all came back on, still the system needs attention.
Today I'm teaching. I'll be so glad when this semester is over. :rotfl:
Thinking about all my virtual pals - Happy Monday to everyone.0 -
Good morning everyone,
I hope you all had a nice weekend.
Well, that's me now officially moved in! Friday night was my last night in the hotel and I got the keys to my new flat on Saturday morning. My mum and step-dad were traveling down in the early afternoon with a van full of my bellongings and so the majority of the day spent unpacking everything, I couldn't have it done it without them and the help of my step brother and gran. They all helped in packing things, wrapping it bubble wrap, moving it all and without them, I'd be in a real pickle.
The flat is looking really quite nice actually. So much so that my mum said she wouldn't mind living in it, which means a lot as she has very high standards. I've a couple of things left to buy but all in all, I'm ready to rock.
I decided to continue my tradition and normal routine by getting my weekly shop last night to find that the 24 hour Tesco was shut. Do all SM's shut on a Sunday night in England? Anyway, I'll need to go tonight as I have practically nothing in the flat.
I'm going to make soup for my lunches and a sausage and bean casserole for dinner.
Hope everyone stays warm and has a lovely Monday0 -
Aw thats good news Speky but yes our Sunday trading laws are ridiculous so they usually close at 5pm latest... Time to change your shopping time
Frying pan on the boil with washing powder in and have some coke if needed for later ...thanks all :A0 -
Good Morning :hello: everybdy - looking cloudy but dry out there today. Forecast is for 9C, but I HAVE to go out (.
bellabella - thanks for starting today's thread :T. Enjoy your time with DMum and family.
nmlc - hope you manage to 'catch up with yourself' and get your to-do list sorted out.
Organza_Lace - enjoy your quiet day with the dogs and Miss Diva :j.
camelot1001 - your Country Living Fair sounds great - glad you enjoyed it :T. What a pity that you couldn't bring all those samples back home with you!
Nelski - well done on your 'wardrobe makeover' - something that I should really have a go at doing.
red ruby - wtg on finally getting the War Memorial photos taken :j.
Gers - what a horrible Sunday for you and your DM - things like that must be such a worry for you, especially being so far away from her. Hope they come and sort out your DM's heating and that you finally get somewhere with JL.
Speky - oops - sorry about that - maybe some of us should have 'thought on' and warned you about 'Sunday Opening Hours' :undecided. Most Supermarkets are open from either 10.00am-4.00pm or 11.00am-5.00pm (it's about the number of hours open (6) - rather than the actual time of closing). Some places actually open their doors to allow for half an hour of browsing but don't open the tills until the set opening-time. You may find that some Mini-Marts will be open until 10.00pm .................. we're still not quite as bad as some of the 'Small Isles and Outer Hebrides' though :rotfl:!
Sending (((Hugs))) to all who need them.
I've had a couple of days at DS2's house. He and his wife climbed Snowdon with a group of people as a Fund Raiser for Claire House in Memory of their friends' son. That left me with the joy of looking after their boys :j. Usual hassle with the two older ones (17 and 10) while youngest (2) was a little :A ................. was still very pleased to get back home to my own bed. Had had to sleep in a single bed, which I hate doing - always scared of falling out as I can't get up off the floor without a lot of shenanigans. In bed by 9.15pm and didn't get out of bed until 5.50am - still managed to go back to sleep till 6.30 :j.
Off to Charity Shop for the afternoon shift - quick visit to church for more form filling - call at Lidl for a jar of their lovely Thick Cut Marmalade - then back home again.
Gluten Free Steak and Kidney Pie with Actifry Chips and Mushy Peas for evening meal .
Will pop back in again later - take care all - luv Ollie xx0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.
Had a really slow day yesterday, we did not get up till lunch time and I managed to sleep for an hour after supper, consequently could not get off to sleep last night, another 1am tea session. I have decided that we are too old to do fairs anymore, so I am going to switch to selling on the internet.
Washer is on with a load of coloureds, hopefully I can get the clothes dry on the line. OH is going to the evergreens so I will nip down to Morrison for some stuff I need. We should be home at the back of 3pm.
My quilting friend is having phone problems have not been able to get hold of her for a few days, the last I heard BT had the road up.
I had made an appointment to see the Dr tonight, then I realised that it was dark by 4.30 so had to phone and change it. I am no longer allowed to drive at night.
Lamb salad with a jacket spud for supper tonight, I have made a peach flan it should last us a couple more nights.0
