Gas & Electric Meters Changed Without Permission

Hi All,

I changed to Usio before their collapse and agreed to a smart meter.

Everything seemed fine until I needed to take a reading from the meter cupboard when I found out they had also changed both meters!

Both meters seem to have started at zero and I don't know the final readings from the old meters before removal.

Having now transferred to First Utility they have just contacted me with the following:

Thanks for sending us your opening gas meter reading. These are validated against the previous readings on your meter. Unfortunately, yours have come back as inaccurate and have been changed to the following:
Reading you provided: 73 Corrected reading: 8776

Obviously I need to contact them to explain but any ideas how I resolve this.

Thanks

There should be a card with the electric meter and either a card with or a sticker on the gas meter which will have the old and new readings, have a good look around the meters. Has your new supplier agreed the meter serial numbers ?

There should have been a card left by the meter fitter on which would be the readings of the old and new meters.

On face value it looks like the new meter might not be on the databases and First Utility think its still the old meter.

Take the serial numbers of the meters you have and ask First Utility if they agree with the info you have.

Do you have details of the last readings you gave to Usio ?

OP - As a matter of interest HOW did they change the meters without your knowledge? They should have not changed either meter without someone being present and after a gas meter change the fitter should have checked that cookers,fires,C/H boiler were all operating safely!!

    Thanks,

You're right about the sticker on the new gas meter but unfortunately nothing on the electric and no card was left.

It's the opening reading that is in dispute so may be a problem.

    Thanks,

I've found a sticker on the gas meter but unfortunately nothing for the electric. I'll take a note of the serial numbers for when I speak to them about it.

I was only with USIO a matter of weeks before their collapse so I'll have the opening readings, but as it was a smart meter I have nothing after the date it was fitted.

I was at work so the wife dealt with it. We were advised they would need to fit the smart meter, that we would need broadband etc but also that they would need access to the meter cupboards.

Nothing was said about changing the meters which I didn't find out about until afterwards.

Not quite sure what you mean.

I agreed to them fitting a smart meter (in the living room), but unknown to us they also changed both the electric and gas meters in the outside cupboards.

I think you are confusing the In House Display (IHD) which is not the Smart Meter - the Smart Meter goes in the meter box and it is this which gives the information to the IHD.

As per my earlier post can we have the meter readings when you started with Usio and when you started with First Utility please plus their tariff details - standing charge and unit rate.
